The Fetzer Institute is a private foundation dedicated to exploring the integral relationship of mind, body and spirit. The Collective Wisdom Initiative is a series of interviews with spiritual teachers. The goal was to transform these interviews into illustrated books. At the outset the clients were asked to list adjectives which would describe their vision. They wanted a design that was "simple, elegant, spacious, enticing, timeless, fresh and solid." For the Native American book, photographs of earth elements become the visual theme. The chosen design was a series of miniature gift books. A few lines of text per page and the abstract, painterly feel of the images combine to create a meditative experience.
